I wrote All Because of Baseball because somewhere between the early mornings, the long drives, the dirty white pants, and the last inning of another game, I realized baseball had given us so much more than a sport.
At first, it looks like a schedule: practices, games, tournaments, and that one field you can never find on the first try. You pack the snacks, remember the water bottle, and hope the weather cooperates. Then, without quite noticing when it happens, those ordinary days become stories you tell over and over.
Baseball gave us time together. Sometimes that meant talking the whole drive home. Sometimes it meant sitting quietly after a tough game, waiting until the words came. I couldn’t make every at-bat go well or protect my child from every disappointment. I could show up, cheer, listen, and be there when he looked toward the stands.
That’s what I wanted to capture in this book.
It’s about the moments around the game
Of course I remember the exciting plays. Every baseball mom does. But I remember the smaller things, too: the anticipation before a game, the sound of teammates cheering each other on, and the shared laugh when the day didn’t go quite as planned.
I wanted All Because of Baseball to honour those moments—the ones that seem ordinary while you’re living them and feel extraordinary when you look back.
It’s a thank-you to baseball moms
Being a baseball mom takes a lot of heart. We celebrate the hits and sit through the slumps. We wash the uniforms, rearrange the calendar, and learn when our kids need encouragement and when they just need us beside them.
I wrote this book for the moms who understand that a game can be about so much more than the final score. It can be about courage, friendship, growing up, and finding your people along the way.
It’s a reminder to enjoy the season you’re in
When you’re rushing from work to the ballpark, it’s easy to wish for a calmer week. I’ve felt that, too. But seasons move quickly. One day the cleats that seemed impossibly big fit perfectly. Then, before you’re ready, they’re too small again.
All Because of Baseball is my way of holding on to a little of that time. I hope it encourages you to take the photo, enjoy the conversation on the drive, and notice the person your player is becoming—on and off the field.
Most of all, I hope that when you read it with your child, you recognize a piece of your own story. Every family’s baseball journey is different, but so many of us know the feeling behind the words: all because of baseball.
